Summary by ahmad ridwan

"Christmas Through The Years" is a must-have for anyone who loves Christmas music. It's a timeless collection that will be enjoyed for years to come, and is sure to bring joy and cheer to any holiday gathering.

Comments

I appreciate all the kind comments. This was the first box set I ever programmed and assembled for Reader's Digest Music and it wound up bring their biggest seller ever -- more than eleven million copies! That makes it one of then best selling box sets of any kind ever released by any label! My boss at the time insisted that Christmas music didn't sell -- simply because SHE didn't like it. As a longtime radio programmer,. my whole idea was to finally put together a collection of as many original Yuletide hit recordings as possible -- instead of what I called "the right songs by the wrong artists" -- which most box set consisted of. I pretty much succeeded, except that my boss refused to allocate enough funds to license several key hits I felt were essential: Nat "King" Cole's "Christmas Song," Bing Crosby's "White Christmas," etc. As a result I had to use second-choice versions of those songs. Years later, my box set "The All-Time Greatest Hits of Christmas" DID have all the right versions of the true Yuletide classics -- plus a whole lot MORE Christmas gems.
How can I download this? I can't find it on Apple music and it's my FAVORITE song on this collection. My dad has the cassettes but they are on their way out
I believe the vocals are by Merv Griffin and the Martin Men. Enjoyable!
Thanks, Frostywarmth, for the nice comments.  I created, programmed and produced the "Christmas Through the Years" collection -- which went on to sell more than 11 million copies as the best-selling box set ever released b Reader's Digest Music.  It didn't come out quite the way I intended -- as I wanted to combine rarities like this version of "The Merry Christmas Polka" (a song also recorded quite well by Dinah Shore) with every million-selling Yuletide hit ever released.   The problem was my boss, so  convinced that Christmas music did not sell (!), would only allow me to license in tracks which did not required a guarantee of over 3,000 copies sold.  That meant -- to my great disappointment -- that, as examples, I couldn't include Bing Crosby's "White Christmas" or Nat "King" Cole's "The Christmas Song" and instead had to put in the second-best selling versions of some songs like that.   Nevertheless, my boss was stunned when "Christmas Through The Years" sold over 7,000 copies in its first week out and, as noted, went on to sell more than 11 million copies.   (My multi-platinum award for it hangs over my desk.)  While all the releases of Reader's Digest Music are now out of print, it's worth it for you to seek out such related sets as "Home For The Holidays" -- and also the Guideposts CD box set "The All-Time Greatest Hits of Christmas."
I still have this 3 CD set but now I can listen to it on YouTube Red....thanks!
Thank you SO much for posting these. I lost this cassette, and am just sick. It's my absolutely favorite Christmas album! I'm downloading the whole thing! You've saved my Christmas. :)
come on and dance the merry christmas polka
with everybody joining in the fun
roll out the barrels that cheer you
and shout til they hear you
a merry christmas everyone!
(music)
come on and dance the merry christmas polka
another joyous season has begun
roll out the yule tide barrels
and sing out the carols
a merry christmas everyone
MERRY CHRISTMAS
a merry christmas everyone
(sorry, had to do it that way cause they limit characters in each post...)

and deck the halls with holly
so lets have a jolly holiday
come on and dance the merry christmas polka
another joyous season has begun
roll out the yule tide barrels
and sing out the carols
a merry christmas everyone
come on and dance the merry christmas polka
let every lady step with her beau
around the tree to the ceiling
with lots of time for stealing
those kisses beneath the mistletoe
they`re tuning up the fiddles now,
the fiddles now, the fiddles now
there`s wine to warm the middles now,
and set your head a-whirl
around and round the room we go,
the room we go the room we go
around and round the room we go,
so get yourself a girl
now every heart will start to tingle,
when sleigh bells jingle
on santas sleigh
together we will greet kris kringle
and another christmas day
come on and dance the merry christmas polka
let everyone be happy and gay
oh its the time to be jolly

i really need the lyrics for this song but can't find it anywhere
Does anybody still send Christmas cards? I do and I make a photo collage of all the ones I've received and hang it in the dining room every Christmas.

My parents played this album on cassette every Christmas in the 80's and my children will grow up with it too.
This is the best christmas cd collection, ever. I'm on my second one. My kids grew up with all these songs.
Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year
There are HICCUPs here!
After Hark the Herald, about 20:27, seemingly most of Hark repeats.
About 22:11, mysteriously The Holly & The Ivy repeats.
About 24:19, only part of We Three Kings plays.
About 25:41, the remaining tunes play as listed; but, Twelve Days ends abruptly about 30:00.
Beautiful singing
