Review by Bartosz Cicharski

Tommy Dorsey & His Orchestra's album, Polka Dots And Moonbeams Imagination, is a delightful collection of swing and jazz music that is sure to captivate any listener. The album features a range of instrumental pieces that showcase the band's prowess and musicality, with a mix of upbeat and mellow tunes that keep the listener engaged throughout.

The album opens with the title track, "Polka Dots And Moonbeams," a classic jazz standard that sets the tone for the rest of the album. The band's smooth and polished sound is showcased in this track, with the brass and woodwind sections blending seamlessly to create a rich and full-bodied sound.

Other standout tracks on the album include "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You," a romantic ballad that features Tommy Dorsey's signature trombone playing, and "Opus One," a lively and energetic swing tune that showcases the band's impressive improvisational skills.

About Tommy Dorsey & His Orchestra

Orchestra under the leading of Tommy Dorsey, formed in 1935 and disbanded a first time in 1946. By late 1946, the band business was indeed having problems. In December 1946, some members of the band (including Tommy Dorsey) were calling it quits. However, less than two years later, he formed an orchestra with exactly the same name (Tommy Dorsey and his orchestra), but with different members. Dorsey's orchestra was known primarily for its renderings of ballads at dance tempos, frequently with singers such as Jack Leonard and Frank Sinatra.
