Review by NICK SOLARES

Svjatoslav Richter's performance of Rachmaninov's Etudes Tableaux Op33 Op 39 Preludes Op23 Op32 is a tour de force of virtuosic pianism. From the opening notes of the first prelude to the thunderous conclusion of the final etude, Richter's playing is marked by a combination of technical brilliance and emotional depth that is truly mesmerizing.

One of the most striking aspects of Richter's interpretation is his ability to bring out the various moods and colors of each piece. Whether it's the dark and brooding atmosphere of the Op.23 No.5 prelude or the fiery energy of the Op.39 No.8 etude, he captures the essence of each composition with remarkable precision and sensitivity.

Another noteworthy feature of this album is the sheer range of Rachmaninov's musical language on display. From the delicate filigree of the Op.32 No.5 prelude to the thundering chords of the Op.33 No.9 etude, there is a wealth of musical ideas and textures that Richter brings to life with consummate skill.

Thank you Motu, this video is a precious gift to the world. Sviatolsav is immortal, and I think he may have returned to planet earth. He maybe disguising himself and performing under the name Benjamin Grosvenor. If so, his disguise isn't working. Does anyone else out there think this may be true ? CHEERS !
Richter never met a keyboard that he did not like. Rachmaninoff's Piano Concertos 1&4 don't get enough stage attention, nor do his Preludes and these Etudes. Possibly the next generation of artists will play them more often.
素晴らしい!
Гениальнейшее исполнение, полет звуков. Браво.???????????????????????
Richter Horowitz Sokolov ,,,,all Russian greats.
I'm a Richter non-fan. But for his Rachmaninoff I make an exception. Stunning performances.
The best combination of the highest technique and the innate lyricism, both of which are absolutely needed for the perfect performance of this magnificent masterwork. Simply wonderful!
“Technically & artistically perfect.” Consensus. How often can one really say that about a classical piece of music?
Richt-Rach is definitely the way to go
These performances are exceptional, but those of Prague the following year are even more unrivaled. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZPmIddGXY8
Richter the best interpreter of Rach...indeed absolutely
Stupendous!
