Review by Mike Margolies

On Two Pianos Rachmaninov by Staffan Scheja and Roland Pöntinen is an exceptional album that showcases the talents of two remarkable pianists. The album features some of Rachmaninov's most beautiful and challenging compositions, which are performed with precision and passion by the duo.

The album opens with the iconic Prelude in C-sharp minor, a piece that has become synonymous with Rachmaninov's name. The pianists play with great sensitivity, capturing the melancholic mood of the piece perfectly. The album also includes other well-known works such as the Vocalise, the Études-Tableaux, and the Suite No. 2 for two pianos.

One of the highlights of the album is the performance of the Suite No. 1 for two pianos, which is a lesser-known work by Rachmaninov. The pianists bring out the intricate harmonies and rhythms of the piece, creating a rich and complex sound that is both thrilling and mesmerizing.
