The Skrews - Demo September 1983

Review by Jeroen van Mierlo

Demo September 1983 by Skrews is a raw and captivating album that showcases the band's energy and talent. From the opening track "No Escape" to the closing song "Panic Attack," the album is a testament to the band's punk-rock roots.

The guitar riffs are aggressive and edgy, and the drums are thunderous, creating a dynamic and fast-paced sound. The vocals are raw and powerful, adding an extra layer of intensity to the music.

The standout tracks on the album include "Sick of You," where the band's anger and frustration are palpable, and "Running Wild," which highlights the band's ability to create catchy hooks and memorable melodies.

Oi!
I saw these at the Carribean Club in Basingstoke supporting the Upstarts. Must have been '85 /86. The whole place full of Skrewdriver t-shirts. The stage was only about a foot off the floor so they lined up all these bouncers to stop people jumping on the stage. I can't remember what happened exactly but I think one of the skins got too close and one of the bouncers chinned him, blood pouring everywhere from the top of his head. I was stood in a circle trying to defuse it with a couple of the bouncers. One skin was selling the NF newspaper at the back of the gig. What a fucking nightmare evening that was. Still, it was quite normal for that time. If you went to a punk / Oi gig and someone didn't get a beer glass in the face, it was considered a boring night.
Interested in early Demo's Alan Jax
