Rio Medina is a standout album by Sir Douglas Quintet, showcasing the band's unique blend of Tex-Mex, rock, and country music. Released in 1984, the album features a mix of original compositions and covers, all infused with the band's signature sound.
The album kicks off with the upbeat track "Who Were You Thinking Of?" which sets the tone for the rest of the record. Other standout tracks include "Texas Me," a tribute to the band's home state, and "Nuevo Laredo," a cover of the traditional Mexican folk song.
Throughout the album, lead vocalist Doug Sahm's distinctive voice shines, backed by the tight instrumentation of the rest of the band. The album also features guest appearances by legendary musicians such as Flaco Jimenez and Augie Meyers.
