Sghor - Le Grand Mystère

Review by Brent Leideritz

Le Grand Mystère by Sghor is a haunting and atmospheric album that takes listeners on a journey through the dark and mystical realms of black metal. From the opening track, "Mystère," to the closing moments of "La Mort," Sghor's music is filled with intricate guitar work, thundering drums, and eerie synth textures that create a sense of otherworldly dread.

Throughout the album, Sghor showcases their ability to craft complex and dynamic compositions that seamlessly blend traditional black metal with elements of progressive and atmospheric metal. The result is a sound that is both familiar and unique, drawing listeners in with its raw aggression and then enveloping them in a swirling vortex of sound.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Le Chant des Anciens," which features a hauntingly beautiful guitar melody that is juxtaposed with frenzied blast beats and guttural vocals. Another highlight is "Le Roi de la Montagne," which builds from a slow and ominous intro into a furious blast of black metal fury.

  • "...Black, cold, the surrounding space. Without sound, without a bit of breath. Somewhere far away beyond the borders of the senses, outs of time, you can hear hopelessly long cries, sad, never-ending monotonous song of emptiness. Emptiness fills everything. Even hearts so far full of life now are dead. All overflows undescribed sorrow, starting off where everything was beginning. Amazing black, deep unlimited black. Darkness nothing more, there is no light. Far flare of perspective changes driven every day. The hours, days, months, years are irrelevant. Waiting gradually turned into the reluctance, the reluctance into sadness, sadness into pain. Far strenuous pain, of all colours of grey - the colour black. ...
