Review by Alfred Greifeneder

My East is Your West is a captivating album by Sarathy Korwar and Upaj Collective that takes the listener on a journey through the fusion of Indian classical music and jazz. The album features a unique blend of instruments such as the tabla, saxophone, and flute, creating a mesmerizing sound that is both traditional and contemporary.

The album opens with the track "Bismillah," which sets the tone for the rest of the album with its intricate rhythms and soaring saxophone solos. The album also features collaborations with renowned Indian classical musicians such as Pt. Ajay Prasanna and Pt. Bhajan Sopori, adding depth and authenticity to the sound.

What makes My East is Your West stand out is the way in which it seamlessly blends two distinct musical genres, creating a sound that is both familiar and new. The tracks are well-crafted, with each musician contributing their own unique style to the mix.

super ! thanx <3
Really enjoying this. So different to what I heard by him from around this period on I think the midweek show from 9pm on bbc6music. It had biting satirical commentary on being “Asian” in the UK. All good though. I’m getting Shakti a bit but that’s probably an ironic reference!
