Review by David Pott

Raymond Harper's album Amour John B with The Vibrators and Bobby Aitken's Carib Beats is a unique blend of reggae and rocksteady. The album features 12 tracks, each with its distinct rhythm and melody.

The album opens with the upbeat "Amour John B," a catchy tune that sets the tone for the rest of the album. "Reggae in My Soul" is another standout track, with its infectious beat and catchy chorus. "Rasta Man" is a slow, groovy number that showcases the band's versatility.

The album's production is top-notch, with each instrument clearly defined and balanced. The vocals are also excellent, with Raymond Harper's smooth voice complementing the music perfectly.

I'M TRYING TO FIND A REGGAE VERSION OF THIS SONG. IT CAME OUT IN THE 90S. I DON'T KNOW WHO SINGS IT. DOES ANYONE KNOW???
@CocacolaCowboy1919
Yep just moved here. Are there ever any good shows in Orlando because there are not here. Well I did have some fun seeing Magadog. Cool cats there. Shoot me an email. rocksteadyskin@gmail.com
@RobTheTrojanSkin DUDE you are in Ybor? I'm in Orlando lol
@RobTheTrojanSkin Yeah I have aspergers syndrome so I am always learning things from tangents and stuff. I was watching Miami Vice and I heard a song My Boy Lollipop and thought..."this sounds like ska" and it was a mainstream 60's pop hit, but it was a ska song in the 50's too, and it has crossover history. I pick up on little things like that. I tell people this is jamaican they say no this is 60s rock...duh. I'm anal about stuff but I can't help it lol I say the Police are reggae people argue
@CocacolaCowboy1919

Thanks I am glad you like it. I don't care for the into too much either but I like the song. They are covering a beach boys song (the same year like many JA covers) which is why the lyrics talk about the Bahamas (Nassau town). And a lot of collectors would call it rocksteady but I like to call a lot of those 66-67 transition songs. ska-steady.

You learn something new everyday. Like usual I learned everything ass backwards. In the 80's when my brother was into early 3rd wave ska I didn't know they were related. But I was fuckin 6 years old. I got into the music so young I thought a LOT of songs were Jamaican first. Still to this day I can put on the oldies station and occasionally catch an oldies song that makes me go "heyyyy". The 1st time I heard this song it was the Laurel Aitken version (great as well).
@RobTheTrojanSkin Actually it is a traditional Bahamas song BEFORE the beach Boys. It was in a book in 1917 and many others have done it. The Kingston Trio did it and Beach Boys a few years later, but there are many older ones. Just don't have a good riddim like this one. I have been diggin on West Indian music and culture and love the history of Ska. I always thought that ska was fast reggae and I know why now lol. I have a friend who likes 311 who said ska and reggae are not related. WOW
I can't believe only one group did a ska version. I was looking for somethin like Maytals or somethin. I like this version but I don't like the intro so I was lookin for something, plus I was lookin for more traditional lyrics, "break up" cause that is how Islanders talk not broke or broken up
Nice. Thanks
