Review by Erik Fatono

Rainbow Cottage's album "Mam Dad And Me" is a delightful collection of folk-inspired tunes that showcase the band's exceptional musicianship and storytelling abilities. The album features a mix of original compositions and covers, each with its own unique flavor and charm.

The band's signature harmonies are on full display throughout the album, with each member taking turns at the lead vocals. The instrumentation is equally impressive, with the use of traditional folk instruments like the banjo, mandolin, and accordion adding an authentic touch to the music.

One standout track is "The Ballad of John Henry", a classic folk song that Rainbow Cottage puts their own spin on with their intricate harmonies and lively instrumentation. Another highlight is the original composition "Mam Dad And Me", a heartfelt tribute to family and the joys of home.

About Rainbow Cottage

British soft rock, and covers act who were formed in Wigan, Lancashire. Initially called the Kibbos, they changed their name in the late-1960s to Rainbow Cottage. They were largely a 'live' act, and went through at least thirteen line-ups before they eventually disbanded after playing their final gig on 17th June 1987; at Goose Green Labour Club in Wigan. While they had a minor hit in 1976 with 'Seagull', they are probably best known for performing the theme tune to the childrens' TV programme, 'Cloppa Castle'. As an only child that spent some years in the withering Lancs textile industry of the late 70's & 80's (super people), I relate to this strongly. But as Robin says below, it would be dismissed as sentimental tosh were it released today into an climate of hip-hop _bruvvas_ .
A lovely song, but far too sentimental for many these days I suppose. I bought the record when it first came out having heard it on Radio 2. It reminded me of my childhood in Lancashire. Thank you for putting it on here.
