Back in New York, the latest album by Phil Woods, is a tribute to the jazz legend's hometown. The album features a collection of tracks that showcase Woods' impressive skills on the alto saxophone, as well as the talents of his accompanying musicians.
From the opening track, "Scrapple from the Apple," Woods sets a high bar for the rest of the album with his dynamic playing and intricate solos. The album takes listeners on a journey through the streets of New York, with tracks like "In a Sentimental Mood" evoking the city's romantic side, while "Take the A Train" captures the energy of its bustling nightlife.
One standout track on the album is "Strollin'," which features a beautiful duet between Woods and pianist Bill Charlap. Their interplay is masterful, with each musician complementing the other's playing perfectly.
