Paul Oxley's Unit - Vendetta

Review by Charles Heureaux

Vendetta by Paul Oxley's Unit is a well-crafted album that showcases the band's strengths in songwriting, musicianship, and production. The album features a mix of rock, pop, and new wave influences, with catchy hooks and memorable melodies that stick in the listener's head.

The opening track, "Eyes of a Stranger," sets the tone with its pulsing rhythm and soaring chorus, while "Different Worlds" and "Living in the Western World" showcase the band's knack for crafting socially conscious lyrics that remain relevant today.

Other standout tracks include the upbeat and funky "Spanish Bars," the wistful ballad "Lonely Hearts," and the anthemic "City of Dreams," which features a soaring guitar solo that adds to the song's power and energy.

About Paul Oxley's Unit

Paul Oxley's Unit was one of the most popular rock bands in Finland in the early 1980s. The band started when Manchester-born Malcolm Campbell came on a holiday to Finland and started to play with a band named The Basement Band, which consisted of three young musicians from the small town of Ekenäs (Tammisaari). The band won a few band competitions and Campbell decided to move to Finland. He took the stage name Paul Oxley. The band was originally named Paul Oxley's Radio and released their debut single under that name, but changed it soon to Paul Oxley's Unit. Their debut album was released in 1981 and it sold more than 60 000 copies in Finland. Their second album in 1982 was also a success. In 1983 the band's name changed to Unit 6 and their third album was released. It wasn't as successful as the previous albums and the band eventually split up. The band made a short comeback in the mid-90's before taking a break again. To promote a compilation album in 2001 Paul Oxley's Unit reunited again and have since occasionally made reunion tours. Current lineup: Paul Oxley (vocals, guitar) Ulf Enberg (guitar) Kjell Ekholm (bass) Niklas Björkqvist (drums) Rob Dominis (keyboards) Previous band members: Brian Hammond (keyboards) Janne Romberg (drums) Johan Lyander (keyboards) Heikki Elo (keyboards)
