This is nice I like this one
Fantastic. I've never heard this one.
Proud to say that half my family came from the coal towns of Kentucky and southern West Virginia.. not sure what the appeal to move to baltimore was but I guess in the 1950s/60s baltimore was a different place. Either way love this song lol
good singer
Jesus I am glad this song got remixed. I can see why it didn't hit till Ford dropped his ver. Glad Travis wrote it tho!
This song has been covered dozens of times, but this original version has so much more soul to it!
i turned 70 yesterday and this the first time i hear the original copy thanks
I think my favorite version of this song is the platters version even though props to the original who wrote it Merle... I just love the deep bass voice that the platters had on that song
It's been suggested this verse refers to coal mining, but I disagree. The song has the line "Fightin' and trouble are my middle name" and in the original by Merle Travis it goes: "I was raised in the bottoms by a mama hound.
I'm mean as a dog, but I'm gentle as a lamb"

That's more indicative of violence that the line that was changed to "I was raised in the canebrake by an ol' mama lion. Can't no high toned woman make me walk the line."
Nowadays there is not a coal mine, but an office cubible, a truck, etc, but still the same shit
Work of art
glad this version exists somewhere! great folk music <3
this version is better
Wow so different then Mr. Fords version. They almost sound like different songs.
Truth never ages. Stay woke and God bless y'all
Brazilian version 16 toneladas is better...
It's funny how this is happening again. Giant companies like Amazon are buying all the real estate in their immediate areas to house their employees which is jacking up housing prices to these crazy levels. But that employee will never be own that home and with the companies continuing to buy up real estate, they never be able to buy their own home thus tied to the company.
Almost every person says they perfer Fords' version. (As for me...)After I heard this version there was no going back. I like the story introduction after the 1st verse and the little gutair breaks inbetween.
Well, let it never be said that mining was worthless.
TEF is pretty good, but I think I prefer this
Tüm madenciler birleşin
Listen to the Z Z Top version. They rip it.
I went back to this particular version after hearing that Amazon wants to build company towns and got an Amazon ad.
Takes a special kind of man to walk into Hell every damn day still exhausted from yesterday, smile and bid his friends good morning.
