About Melanie Martinez
Melanie Martinez is a vocalist with a bent toward alternative singer/songwriter pop and electronic music, who is best known for competing on the third season of NBC's vocal competition The Voice. A native of Baldwin, New York, Martinez grew up listening to her father's Beatles records and hip-hop music. In 2012, while still in high school, Martinez auditioned for, and won a spot on, NBC's The Voice with her performance of Britney Spears' "Toxic." Choosing to join judge Adam Levine's team, she eventually made it to week five before getting eliminated via audience vote. In 2014, Martinez released the Kinetics- and One Love-produced EP Dollhouse on Atlantic Records.

Melanie Martinez is a singer in a similar shape and form to the indie pop divas like Lana Del Rey and Lorde. What makes Melanie special is her songwriting style - she uses cutesy, nostalgic metaphors and imagery and depicts it in a dark, creepy, haunted manner. She dosen't seem depressed or an empty void all together. It seems she wants to tell you something from a storybook This album delivers what she wants - a cutesy yet melodramatic album. It feels a little long for a debut with 12 tracks. Overall, Melanie Martinez knows what kind of emotions she wants to put in her audience, and the album does the job. This debut easily makes her and Marina and the Diamonds the best indie divas of our generation.
