Maeth - Whaling Village

Review by Franck Dana

Maeth's latest album Whaling Village is a haunting and immersive experience that takes listeners on a journey through the depths of the ocean. The band's signature blend of doom, sludge, and post-metal is on full display here, but there's also a sense of experimentation and exploration that sets this album apart from their previous work.

From the opening track "The Curse of Oak Island," with its eerie guitar riffs and ominous vocals, to the epic closer "The Last Leviathan," which clocks in at over 14 minutes and features some of the most powerful and emotive moments on the album, Whaling Village is a masterclass in atmospheric metal.

The production is top-notch, with each instrument given plenty of room to breathe and shine. The guitars are heavy and crushing, the drums thunderous and precise, and the bass provides a solid foundation for everything else to build upon. The vocals are also a standout feature, with both clean and harsh styles used to great effect throughout the album.
