Spécial Lionel Hampton, the latest album by Lionel Hampton and the Just Jazz All Stars, is a fantastic jazz record that showcases the incredible talent of the legendary vibes player and his band. The album features a collection of Hampton's most iconic compositions, including "Flying Home," "Hamp's Boogie Woogie," and "Midnight Sun," as well as some lesser-known gems.
The musicianship on this album is simply breathtaking. From Hampton's virtuosic vibraphone solos to the tight and swinging rhythm section, every member of the Just Jazz All Stars shines on every track. The album also features some excellent guest appearances by jazz luminaries such as Benny Carter, Buddy Rich, and Charlie Shavers, adding even more depth and richness to the music.
One of the standout tracks on the album is "Hamp's Got a Duke," a tribute to the great Duke Ellington that features some scorching solos by Hampton and saxophonist Benny Carter. Another highlight is "Stardust," a beautiful ballad that showcases Hampton's sensitive and lyrical playing.
