Lightnin Hopkins In New York is a classic blues album by the legendary singer and guitarist Lightnin' Hopkins. Recorded in 1960, the album captures Hopkins at his best, delivering raw and emotional performances of his signature songs.

The album features Hopkins' distinctive guitar style, which combines intricate fingerpicking with soulful slide work. His vocals are equally impressive, conveying a range of emotions from joy to heartbreak. The songs are mostly traditional blues tunes, but Hopkins puts his own spin on them, making them sound fresh and original.

The standout tracks on the album include "Mojo Hand," "Blues for Gamblers," and "Shake That Thing." On these songs, Hopkins' guitar playing is particularly impressive, showcasing his technical skill and improvisational prowess.

Recorded November 15, 1960 at the Nola Penthouse Sound Studios in New York. It was only a month earlier in October of 1960 that Hopkins had made his Carnegie Hall debut alongside folk luminaries Joan Baez and Pete Seeger. Before that, he had rarely ventured outside of his native Texas.
Which venue in NYC???I saw him at Tramps and the Bottom Line

Let’s go cross town and clown... ??
Lightning Sam Hopkins, and his brother, Joel Squatty Hopkins. Were extremely close and goodly devoted friends. Of my Great -Grandfather. Mr. John B. Orr. Who had a large Horse farm outside of Centerville Texas. I spent time down there in my early youth. Lightning bought me my first new guitar. A baby 3/4 size Gibson acoustic guitar. Lola Ann Cullen was quite close friends, with my Gram Esther-Mae Orr. They had been friends for ever and ever. My Great Grandfather John B. Orr. Had been a deputy sheriff and a Texas Ranger in his youth. And carried some bullets inside of him till the day he died. My Gramp bought me a string of horses. And taught me how to saddle break green stock. And gentle em down. I had a beautiful carved Bronc Buster's saddle from Liebmans in San Antonio. Juan Lopez was my Gramps foreman and my particular goodly compadre. We rode many a mile together upon horseback. Old Juan and I. He taught me to shoot both a Winchester saddle carbine mod 1894 in 44.40.cal.and 2 pair of 44.40.long barrel Colt revolvers that my Gramp had given to me. We hand loaded so much ammo with the presses. And carried double bandoliers of cartridges with us. Everywhere we went. Gramp stressed that fact. Better to have, and not need. Than doggone need, and not have but empty brass all around you. When my beloved Gramp died. I put them old Colts and my Winchester in the ground. God bless the dead eternally.
THE BEST BLUES SINGER/ GUITARIST EVER. JUST WISH I COULD HAVE ATTENDED ONE OF HIS CONCERTS.
