Review by Dione Himura

Sextet, the latest album by Joshua Rager, is an impressive display of the pianist's musical prowess. The album features six original compositions, each showcasing Rager's ability to blend different musical styles and genres into a cohesive and engaging sound.

From the opening track, "The Way You Look at Me," Rager's skillful playing is evident. His solos are intricate and melodic, and he effortlessly weaves in elements of jazz, classical music, and even pop. The other members of the sextet, including saxophonist Donny Kennedy and guitarist Mike Rud, also contribute to the album's rich and dynamic sound.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Blues for Daryl," a tribute to the late jazz pianist Daryl Sherman. Rager's piano playing is soulful and emotive, and the saxophone and guitar solos add depth and texture to the piece.
