About Joel Christie

Joel was born in Indianapolis, Ind., (born Aug. 8, 1939, died March 8.2016). Joel grew up in southern California, where he graduated from Burroughs High School. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force, where he worked in intelligence on breaking codes. After leaving the Air Force, Joel pursued a career as a singer, musician and songwriter. Through his professional music career, Joel had a record contract with Imperial Records, a writing contract with Motown Records, was a cast member of the musical play Hair, traveled the country performing with his band the Cosmic Travelers, was a member of Lee Michaels band, performed with his band Zoomin Noomin in Pagosa Springs and in many surrounding towns.

In Mar. 1965, I sat in with Joel at a club in W. Los Angeles (TipTop or Top Hat??). He sang and played bass, and I was just in awe of his singing! I thought he would "make it" soon! It was a gas to be on the same stage as him,and his band! I recall him doing a parody of a current song "The Name Game" (Shirley Ellis). He sure knew how to entertain the crowd. I always wondered what happened to him?
