Review by Rhenata Ignatia

Courting and Riddle Songs by Jean Ritchie and Oscar Brand is a delightful album that captures the essence of traditional American folk music. The album features a collection of charming and timeless ballads, sung beautifully by Jean Ritchie and Oscar Brand.

The album opens with "The Two Brothers," a haunting ballad that tells the story of two siblings who fall in love with the same woman. The song's haunting melody and Ritchie's ethereal voice create a captivating atmosphere that draws the listener in.

Other standout tracks include "The Cuckoo," a traditional Appalachian tune that Ritchie sings with a sweet, lilting voice, and "The Riddle Song," a playful tune that showcases Brand's lively guitar playing and Ritchie's clever lyrics.

Here on YouTube has appeared a piece of my childhood! My father was a folk music lover - especially Celtic music and bluegrass. He had a large music library, and used to play records for me. (When he wasn't playing records he played the same songs on his guitar). This particular album was one of my favourites. I hadn't heard it in decades... until now. thank you so much!
Lovely to hear my father and godmother singing together. Always a delightful memory.
