Review by Ringo Bell

Irish Rock Big Guitar by Frank DeRosa and his DeMen is a fantastic album that showcases the Irish rock genre with an emphasis on guitar. The album features 10 tracks that are a blend of traditional Irish music and rock, and Frank DeRosa's guitar skills are on full display throughout.

The opening track, "Whiskey in the Jar," immediately sets the tone for the album with its upbeat tempo and catchy guitar riffs. The album also features covers of classic Irish songs such as "The Wild Rover" and "Danny Boy," which are given a modern twist with DeRosa's guitar solos.

The album's standout track is "Celtic Rock," which perfectly blends traditional Irish music with rock and roll. The track features a driving beat, intricate guitar work, and even includes a bagpipe solo.

Comments

My dad is Robert Genovese who co-wrote this tune with Frank DeRosa in Rochester, NY. Yes, it was originally released on KEN records in 1958 in Rochester, then picked up by DOT. Dad unfortunately passed on July 5, 2020. He loved this song. My brothers and I still gig this song regularly with our band based here in Las Vegas.
Nationally released by Dot. Have had a copy in my collection since the early '60's. Listen closely for the tape splice at just before the outro.....
One of the first nationally released Rock and Roll singles and artists to come from Rochester, NY (a full decade ahead of the Rustix).  So real a deal was this mean sounding instrumental that, at least where I'm from, it scared off all the cover versions that tried to tame it.  This and its equally raucous flip side, "Irish Rock" make for a convincing Rock debut for the Flower City.
