Doug Pray - Hype

Hype, the 1996 documentary film about the Seattle music scene of the late 1980s and early 1990s, was accompanied by a soundtrack that captures the energy and diversity of the era. The album, released in the same year as the film, features tracks from some of the most influential bands of the time, including Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, and Nirvana.
Doug Pray, the director of Hype, curated the album, and his choices reflect his deep knowledge and appreciation of the Seattle music scene. The album opens with "Touch Me I'm Sick" by Mudhoney, a raw and gritty track that sets the tone for the rest of the album. The next track, "Overblown" by Mudhoney's labelmates, the grunge supergroup, The Posies, is a catchy and upbeat pop song that provides a welcome contrast to the heavier tracks.
Other highlights of the album include "Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns" by Mother Love Bone, a haunting and beautiful ballad that showcases the late Andrew Wood's soulful vocals, and "Would?" by Alice in Chains, a dark and brooding song that features the late Layne Staley's distinctive voice.
