Review by Enciu Constantin

Don Byas was a renowned jazz saxophonist, and his album "Laura Cement Mixer" with his orchestra is a testament to his talent. The album features a mix of upbeat swing and bluesy ballads, showcasing the range of Byas' musical abilities.

From the first track, "Laura," listeners are transported to a world of smooth jazz melodies and toe-tapping rhythms. Byas' saxophone solos are masterful, and the orchestra provides a perfect backdrop for his improvisations. The album also includes classics like "St. Louis Blues" and "Blue and Sentimental," which are given new life with Byas' fresh interpretations.

One standout track is "Harvard Blues," a slow and sultry ballad that allows Byas to showcase his emotional depth as a musician. The orchestra provides a lush and romantic backdrop for his saxophone, creating a dreamy atmosphere that is both soothing and captivating.

a great version by the Master sax player Don Byas !
ADHD MUHFUKERZ WILL NEVER SURVIVE THIS RECORDING!
From 1970 on Byas didn't reflect the giant of a musician and tenor player that he actually was. When I caught him several years later at Chicago's Jazz Showcase, he wasn't quite up to speed. -- Always good to see Joe Benjamin's name. Such a great musician and humble human being. Sad to think of his sudden, unnecessary end--it seemed fatalistic given my last conversation with him, when he said: "Don't go into music as a career. Anything else is bound to be better." (He was traveling with Duke Ellington at the time.)
If Cognac played tenor sax
