About Dieter Süverkrüp

German painter and songwriter, born 30 May 1934 in Düsseldorf, Germany. From 1956 he played jazz guitar with , but soon he turned to a political singer/songwriter. From 1962 he released a couple of albums and EPs with lyrics by , partially translated from french revolutionary chansons. From the mid-1960s on he also recorded own songs, but still kept interpreting poltical songs from various ages. He not only appeared as soloist, but also collaborated with , , and others. Though strictly political singer/songwriter, his work nevertheless covers a wide range of styles, from negro spirituals, revolutionary songs, christmas carols to childrens songs and folk tunes. After 1989 he rarely appeared on stage any more and didn't write many more own songs. He rather more recorded songs and lyrics by , and others. 1992/93 he had a professorship for poetry at Folkwang-Hochschule in Essen, Germany. Since the 1990s Süverkrüp mostly focusses on visual arts.
