Coma Lies - The Great Western Basin

Review by SALEM EMMANUEL

Coma Lies' latest album, The Great Western Basin, is a captivating journey into the depths of experimental rock. The band's distinctive sound, which blends elements of post-rock, shoegaze, and ambient music, is on full display throughout the record.

From the opening track, "Waves of Sand," the listener is transported to a world of sonic exploration, with swirling guitars and ethereal vocals creating a dreamlike atmosphere. The band's use of dynamic shifts and unconventional song structures keeps the listener engaged throughout the entire album.

Tracks like "Echoes of the Canyon" and "Desert Mirage" showcase Coma Lies' ability to create intricate soundscapes that are both haunting and beautiful. The band's use of electronic textures and atmospheric effects adds an extra layer of depth to the music.

About Coma Lies

Coma Lies are a tech-hardcore/metal band from Newcastle, Australia. They recorded a four-track demo in 2005 before beginning to record their debut EP for Skull and Bones Records in 2006. This period showed much change to the style of music Coma played and a drastic change in their lineup; guitarists Mat Taylor and Luke Pollock (who recorded the guitar tracks for the EP) and drummer Chad Palmer were replaced. 2007 saw the long awaited release of A Churchwell Killing and an intense touring schedule which is still underway. The band have been writing new music and have been playing these Red Chord/Acacia Strain/Converge influenced songs live. Through May and June of 2009 the band travelled to LA to record their debut album with Steve Evetts (The dillinger escape plan, Poison the well, Everytime I die). Upon their return to Australia, the album was still not finished, with the rest of the recording taking place in Mitta Norath's (drummer) home studio. By November 2009, it was announced that Liam Christenson had parted ways with the band and Reece Moon would be his replacement. Vocals for the album were re-written and recorded. Their debut, self released album "The great western basin" was completed and released by early 2010. The band are no longer called "Coma Lies
