Review by Christine Plouvier

Symphonie No 14 by Chostakovitch is a masterpiece that showcases the composer's skill in creating hauntingly beautiful music. The album features the talented Teresa Kubiak and Isser Bushkin, who deliver powerful vocal performances that perfectly complement the orchestral arrangements. The New York Philharmonic, under the direction of Leonard Bernstein, delivers a stunning performance that captures the essence of Chostakovitch's music.

The album's fourteen movements are a testament to Chostakovitch's talent as a composer. The haunting melodies and evocative lyrics are a perfect match for the somber subject matter of the piece. The vocal performances by Kubiak and Bushkin are particularly noteworthy, as they bring a depth of emotion to the music that is both moving and captivating.

The orchestral arrangements are equally impressive, with the New York Philharmonic bringing Chostakovitch's music to life with precision and passion. Bernstein's direction is masterful, as he creates a sense of drama and tension that perfectly complements the music.
