Review by Mathew Cole

The album Dancing Barefoot by Celibate Rifles is a must-have for fans of punk rock music. The band's unique sound is a blend of punk, rock, and surf, which creates a dynamic and energetic listening experience. The album features 13 tracks, each with its own distinct vibe and message.

The opening track, "Jesus on TV," sets the tone for the album with its fast-paced guitar riffs and politically charged lyrics. Other standout tracks include "Sometimes," which showcases the band's ability to create catchy hooks, and "Ice Blue," a slower, more introspective song that highlights the band's versatility.

Throughout the album, the Celibate Rifles maintain a high level of energy and intensity, making it impossible not to dance along. The band's musicianship is also on full display, with tight rhythms and impressive guitar solos.

About The Celibate Rifles

An Australian garage rock band founded by a group of friends at a suburban Sydney high school during 1979. The two early members who've contributed to every era of The Celibate Rifles are the guitar duo of Kent Steedman and Dave Morris. "The band's energy, humour and disrespect for fashion mark the early Rifles as a true garage band in a sea of carports." Their first singer was , but by 1980/81 Ian had handed over vocal duties to Damien Lovelock (who would remain the band's lead singer until his death in August 2019). The band's rhythm section varied somewhat over the years, with some players leaving then returning. Bass: Michael Couvret (1979 to 1982, 1984 to 1986, 2001 to 2011) // James Darroch (1982 to 1984, d. March 1986) // Rudy Morabito (1986 to 1988) // Jim Leone (1988 to 2001, 2011 to 2019). Drums: Phillip Jacquet (1979 to 1986) // Paul Larsen Loughhead (1986 to 1991, 2001 to 2019) // Nik Rieth (1991 to 2001).

Comments

Nice version of "Dancing Barefoot", with extended guitar jams. The live version of "Jesus on TV" is smoking hot.
