My fave Butterfield. I was lucky to see them live three times in the early 70's in Boston then with Danko much later. They toured constantly, then were no more. I wish I could go back and experience it again with the knowledge and appreciation that I have now. I saw J Geils 6 times, The Band 3 times, Elton John's first Us concert, The Who, Jefferson airplane, Santana, The Dead five times, once with Dylan, Bob Weir band, James gang, Poco, Steve Miller, Jethro Tull, John Mayall twice, John Mclaughlin, Mott the Hoople, Youngbloods three times, Joni Mitchell, McCoy Tyner, George Benson, Stan Getz, and a lot of others. Regret I missed the Stones and Allman Bros. But in those days every concert was a great one and it cost nothing to $10 max. J Geils was the house band at the Boston tea Party and usually opened all the shows.
Playing harp in a Chicago club (Biddy Muligans) when Butter walked in. Asked if he could sit in...and oh...could he borrow a harp? Of course! Mid 70's. Great experience for me...a young harp player at the time makin' my bones and payin' dues.
The Butterfield blues band was playing on a higher level than any other musicians on the planet Steve Miller and his band made a vow not to see Paul Butterfield anymore. He said it was too discouraging
My favorite Butterfield album and one of my favorite albums of all time.
This is far and away the best my phone has ever sounded!!!
Tremendous groove! Blues the best!
I like it a lot. Those horns in the background give it a blues vibe. I like the solo. Not too intricate but original bluesy and a hair psychedelic. The beat is great. Enjoy the riff. Yes, the old stuff smokes the new stuff. No doubt about it.
One of the best harp solos ever. Made me go out and buy one!
Just one of my favorite songs of all time.
monumental in every respect, an album for the ages
The guy who put this up with his stupid comments missed the whole point. Which was the beautiful base. Beautiful by anyone's standards. And then to say that Butter wasn't up to his usual standard of genius? Wish I could say that you were just off your butter or something but I can't.
This is one of the finest modern blues albums recorded. The Driftin; and Driftin' cut is absolutely of the best blues songs ever recorded. The harmonica, smooth organ, wonderful lead sax and of course Elvin Bishop's guitar playing on this song is so inventive, sweet and bluesey. You must listen to this rendition. This level of talent and production combined will never be attained again. MODERN BLUES AT IT"S BEST! One more Heartache is a great example of this album, BUT, you must hear Driftin'......!
My All time favorite! I saw him live twice! Got his autograph when he played in a small venue in San Francisco ❤️
Phenomenol
Just watched Butterfield doc. A unique and peculliar player.
As a bass player one of my favourites, and not 4:4.
As a bass player one of my favourites, and not 4:4.
Probably Butter's best recorded harmonica solo!
Very good Harmonica ?
Unreal;I haven'heard this music since 1968
I got turned on to it at 16, im 65 now, music to my ears
Thanks for the insight Jaime. Just thought the rhythm needed some focus as well. Still tho.....wow.
The guitar solo? Yeah, it's good, But Butterfield's harp solo is genius.
As a bass player of 53 years, I remember learning this bass part back when it was new and I have to be honest the timing on the bass part sincro-ed with the rest of the song is and was amazing! I can play it, but do I understand it, not really. It seems to be 1 beat ahead of the rest of the parts. Maybe someone can clue me in. Pure genius, Bugsy.
They did something special.
