Review by Johanan Sen

The album Brandenburg Concertos First Recording Of The Original Version Urfassung by Bach, performed by The Academy Of St MartinintheFields under the direction of Neville Marriner, is a stunning display of musicianship and technical skill. This recording presents the listener with the original version of Bach's famous Brandenburg Concertos, which were first composed in 1721.

The performance is characterized by a remarkable balance and clarity of sound, with each instrument contributing to a rich and full-bodied texture. The ensemble's attention to detail is evident in the subtle nuances of phrasing and dynamics, which are executed with precision and finesse.

The soloists are equally impressive, showcasing their virtuosity and musicality in each of the six concertos. The first concerto, in particular, stands out for its lively and energetic performance, with the solo trumpet and violin trading virtuosic passages.

The recording quality is excellent, capturing the ensemble's performance in crisp and clear detail. The album is accompanied by informative liner notes, which provide historical context and analysis of the music.

About Bach The Academy Of St MartinintheFields, Neville Marriner

Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 21, 1685 in Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany. A prolific German composer and organist, his sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra and solo instruments drew together the strands of the baroque genre and brought it to its ultimate maturity. Although he introduced no new forms, he enriched the prevailing German style with a robust contrapuntal technique, a control of harmonic and motivic organisation from the smallest to the largest scales, and the adaptation of rhythms and textures from abroad, particularly Italy and France. Many people consider him to be the greatest Baroque composer, and one of the greatest composers of all time. Revered for their intellectual depth, technical command and artistic beauty, J.S. Bach's works include the Brandenburg concertos, the keyboard suites and partitas, the Mass in B Minor, the St. Matthew Passion, The Musical Offering, The Art of Fugue and a large number of cantatas, of which about 220 survive. He died on July 28, 1750. Some of his sons also became composers - , , and .
