The album "John Kitchen Plays British Light Music On The Organ Of The Usher Hall Edinburgh" by Arthur Sullivan, Michael Thomson, and John Kitchen is a delightful collection of classic British tunes played on the majestic organ of the Usher Hall in Edinburgh. The album showcases the exceptional talent of John Kitchen, a renowned organist and scholar, who has expertly arranged and performed these timeless pieces.

The album features a diverse range of compositions, from the well-known works of Arthur Sullivan to the lesser-known pieces of Michael Thomson. Kitchen's masterful playing brings these compositions to life, highlighting their intricate melodies and harmonies. His skillful use of the organ's various registers and stops adds depth and texture to each piece, creating a rich and vibrant sound.

One of the standout tracks on the album is Thomson's "Suite for Organ: In Memoriam," which is a moving tribute to the composer's late wife. Kitchen's interpretation of the piece is both emotional and powerful, conveying the depth of Thomson's grief and the beauty of his musical tribute.

Comments

A clever person.
In 2002 I had a chance to explore the inside of this organ when the renovation was almost complete. I'd been inside several organs in the past, but nothing prepared me for the sheer size of this beast. To get from the choir/orchestral section up to the Great, Swell and Solo divisions was 3 stories and the builder had provided a grand staircase to take us up to just under the roof of the hall where these sections lived. I never saw anything like that before or since !
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stop talking and lets hear and see you playing John
