Alien Sex Fiend - Ignore The Machine

Review by Jhero Jhero

Ignore The Machine by Alien Sex Fiend is an album that has left a lasting impression on those who have listened to it. The band's unique blend of gothic rock, punk, and electronic music makes for an intense and captivating listening experience.

The album opens with the title track, "Ignore The Machine," a hauntingly beautiful song that sets the tone for what's to come. The album then takes the listener on a wild ride through a variety of moods and emotions, from the frenzied energy of "Buggin' Me" to the dark and brooding "Dead And Buried."

One of the standout tracks on the album is "E.S.T. (Trip To The Moon)," a trippy and surreal song that features distorted vocals and a hypnotic beat. Another highlight is "I Walk The Line," a cover of the Johnny Cash classic that the band puts their own unique spin on.

Notes

  • Recorded and mixed at Pineapple Studios, Southall on the 16th & 17th June 1983.
  • Original 12" release: March 1985
  • Recorded + mixed at Pineapple Studios Southall on the 16th and 17th of June 1983.
  • Re-released due to demand, this is a shorter, edited, version of the song "Ignore The Machine" from the original 7" single. The cover can be distinguished from the original by the pink writing (instead of green) over the matte black & white background picture, also the back cover is different with some lyrics & Nik Fiend artwork, the date, and also by the mention of the "Acid Bath" LP on back of sleeve.
  • Despite the UK catalog number (ANA 11) and the 'Made in the UK' sticker on the back of the sleeve, the record and sleeve are manufactured in France.
  • This is the full length, original version of "Ignore The Machine" as on the original 7 & 12" singles. It was released at the same time as the 7" re-release & picture disc due to the demand. The cover is different from the original 12", this one is a black & white band photo. Also note the inclusion of "I'm Not Mad" (taken from the first Alien Sex Fiend album Who's Been Sleeping In My Brain?) instead of the original B-side track "Under The Thunder".
  • Side B label incorrectly lists the publisher as "Cherry Red Records".
  • The rhythm machine is credited as "Roland S. Ha Ha", referring to the make of the machine (Roland) with the last name of their drummer (Ha Ha) and structured to parody the name of Rowland S. Howard, guitarist for the Birthday Party.
  • Recorded on the 16th and 17th of June, 1983.
